Monthly archive: June 2006

Well, after a month of serious issues with my old HP IPAQ, I finally upgraded my phone to a T-Mobile MDA.  It is still a Pocket PC but with the newest version of Windows Mobile.

I’m just happy to have a fully functional phone at last. I am pretty reliant on my technology tools to keep all my tasks and due dates straight and this was really impacted by some of those Ipaq failures. Add feeling under the weather last week, and it became evident I just couldn’t afford to go without my ‘electronic brain’ any longer.

I am trying out a new organizer software, SPB Diary and SPB Pocket Plus. Hopefully they work as well as my old software, tAgenda.

I will add some comments as I get used to the MDA and new software.

There is often no need to ‘reinvent the wheel’ when it comes to features you might want to put on your website. Time IS money when you’re thinking about how to get those special features on your website. This is why I often recommend a variety of 3rd party products and services and even have a Reviews & Recommendations section (more to be included) rather than ‘custom programming’ every option that someone wants for their site. If you can get the feature you want by purchasing an existing product, this almost always saves you money over having someone program the same feature.  Generally it also offers a more stable (tried and tested) platform as well as gives you features you may not have requested but could use.

If you haven’t checked out Google Answers, you should try it out. Google Answers has more than 500 carefully screened Researchers to answer your question for as little as $2.50 and usually within 24 hours. So if you need some research done on a specific question, its a great resource. It is also a great resource for seeing answers that OTHER people paid for, as all questions and answers are publicly displayed. One last idea for using Google Answers– using it to see what information people are looking for in respect to your industry or niche. Knowing what people are looking for is an important step to determining what services and products are in demand.

Update 12/3/2006:  Google Answers is being retired by Google.  They are keeping their database of questions available, but no new questions are being accepted.
